Many parents want their children’s ears pierced as infants. There are also older children who wish to have their ears pierced. If ear piercing is in your child’s future, you should consider having it performed at your pediatrician's office.

The biggest risk associated with ear piercing is infection. This risk is greater in younger children, particularly if the area is not cleaned appropriately.

At Over the Moon Pediatrics, we offer sterile medical ear piercing for your child. During this medical procedure, we make sure to wash our hands, put on a set of disposable gloves, clean and prep the area, apply the marking, then use a one-time use sterilized ear piercing kit. We do not use a piercing gun that gets reused between patients.

Another risk associated with ear piercing is having an allergic reaction to the material used in the earring. This usually occurs when the metal used contains some nickel. Nickel is a common allergy for many people. It is recommended that people with nickel allergies use nickel-free jewelry made of titanium, surgical steel, or medical grade plastic.

Our medical professional ear piercing kits include sterilized medical grade titanium piercing earrings. They are designed to avoid metal allergies and are made for those with skin sensitivities. The earring backs are made of surgical steel, lock in place, and have a rounded design that encloses the sharp piercing post while at the same time allowing maximum air circulation for faster healing. Your child’s kit also includes an after-care solution used for cleaning the ears.

We currently offer ear piercings to existing patients - please call to inquire about available dates and times.
