Once your child turns 3, (s)he will have yearly checkups. Please note that once your child reaches 3 years of age, insurance plans differ as to whether they will cover a checkup every calendar year or every 365 days. It is up to you to know when your child is due for a checkup and when your insurance will cover it.

There are several benefits of keeping up with your child’s checkups. Several visits, particularly within the first 2 years of life, include scheduled immunizations which help to prevent illnesses. These are also opportune times to discuss topics such as nutrition, safety, developmental milestones, sleep and social behaviors. Checkups are a great way to get to know your child when they are healthy. Regular visits help to form a trustworthy relationship among parents, patients, and their pediatricians.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that every child receive care through a medical home. What is a medical home? A medical home is where care is provided continuously over a long period of time, such as from infancy to childhood to adolescence and finally into young adulthood. By keeping care for your child at a medical home, you establish a long-term history with your pediatrician who knows your child and is able to follow your child’s development and progress. Developing such a relationship allows your pediatrician to monitor your child from well child checkups to sick visits and any chronic conditions that may develop along the way. Your pediatrician is also able to refer your family to any specialists that may be needed for particular diagnoses or treatment plans.

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you choose a pediatrician as the primary care doctor for your child. A pediatrician is someone who has completed medical school, a pediatrics residency, and is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and has years of experience in examining, diagnosing, and treating children.

Over the Moon Pediatrics hopes that you will choose us to be your child’s medical home if you feel we are a good fit for you and your family. Dr. Suhendra will gladly see your child until they graduate from college or turn 22!
